Applying Social Work to Life

I found this article interesting:
[1] Outstanding student applies social work studies to career, volunteer work
Recent social work graduate Delinda Buie already had a fulfilling career as a rare books curator at her university’s library. She went back to school to get a social work degree so she could gain skills that would be helpful in her volunteer community work. As she put it, “It really does relate to everything.”
And that is so true. She has used her social work knowledge to enhance the library’s programs. I know of other social work graduates who combine their social work knowledge, values, and skills with other aspects of their lives and their careers. They might have a dual degree in social work and law, or social work and public health, or social work and journalism. They may even be employed with a job title of lawyer or journalist, but they are equally social workers and use their social work education equally with their other knowledge.
Social work is more than a job. And sometimes it isn’t a job at all–it’s a way of life.
